Tug handling courses with ASD specialization

The majority of towage providers operate Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) tugs. It is by far the most popular tug in the industry. Current developments, after the financial crisis, made ASD tug spread even wider. Operating this tug however is incomparable to all other types. There are some similarities between the different types of tugs, but the ASD has proved to be a type on its own. It requires training, training and again training to get the tug fully under command.

It is therefore essential to provide proper ASD training prior to operation, to ensure that the job is being done at the highest level of professionalism. Trimco offers just that course. Highly skilled instructors will teach your (future) masters to master the ASD. We train on the job. Why? Because the trainee stays within his comfort zone and can address all his attention to the tug. Secondly, it is logistically better to bring the trainer to the school than bring the school to the trainer. Third reason is that during instruction more masters can attend simultaneously. This will reduce the total training time significantly. What are the areas of tuition?

§ Side step

§ Maneuvering at close quarters

§ Interaction aspects

§ Stern to bow

§ Bow to bow

§ Bow to stern

§ Stern to stern

§ Configuration choices

§ Different control systems

§ Identifying no go areas

After completion of the course the trainee can operate the ASD confident and by himself on every type of assistance to seagoing vessels within the limits of the port. He does not only have a number of options to execute the assistance but can also choose the most favorable.
